Expo Real is the property sector’s leading trade show and the largest of its kind in Europe. At the beginning of October 2024, the district of Düren showed how structural change can be managed locally as well as the levels of future potential to be found in our region.
In this context, a modern building complex going by the name of Schwanenquartier and consisting of hotel, retirement home and shopping facilities is to be constructed in Jülich. At Expo Real, District Administrator Wolfgang Spelthahn and Jülich Mayor Axel Fuchs held further targeted talks on the subject with representatives of the Dorint hotel chain and investors, along with other interested parties.
A solid decision for the future
Establishing a Dorint hotel in Düren is already proving to be a good decision – the address in the district town is one of the hotel chain’s most successful. A further one is now coming to Jülich, located in the emerging Schwanenquartier, with space for around 300 guests. The schedule: initial preparatory work and development of the site in 2025, start of construction work in 2026 and inauguration of the hotel in mid-2028.
“The new location in Jülich will also benefit from its closeness to major cities such as Cologne, Düsseldorf and Aachen, and the level of visitors at major events will spill over. The municipalities in Düren district are constantly developing, and that’s a factor that is particularly important as part of our growth plans,” informs District Administrator Wolfgang Spelthahn.
Mayor of Jülich Axel Fuchs adds: “As a location for research Jülich continues to expand, which is why developing the Schwanenquartier makes a lot of sense – not only so that we can warmly welcome a wealth of guests but also because many Jülich residents will indeed be able to benefit from the retail possibilities and the retirement home.”
The investor of the new neighbourhood is Schwan-Quartier Jülich GmbH & Co. KG, a consortium of Honestis AG and GEG Grundstücksentwicklungsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG.
